How to minimise energy consumption in buildings?
There are many possibilities for the reduction of energy consumption for heating purposes in buildings:
First of allthermal insulation should be considered. That prevents energy losses in winter and in summertime it does not allow heat to enter the buildings from outside. The legislation determines the minimum level of thermal protection of buildings, but it is always better to use thicker insulation layers than the law requires. Because energy prices are constantly growing, every far-sighted and economically-minded investor insulates his building very thoroughly.
Secondly, energy from renewable sources should be applied. It is a common fact that “fuel“ for renewable energy can be gained free of charge. The sun shines, the wind blows for free, and geothermal energy can be freely utilised with the help of a heat pump. Of course, first the appliances for this free energy have to be purchased and installed, which unfortunately very often still makes renewable energy hardly competitive with the traditional energy sources.
Thirdly, efficient energy utilisation should be considered. Proper thermal insulation will reduce the required amount of heat to keep the building at the desired temperature. Then, in order to further reduce the amount of fuel and energy, heat would have to be delivered by the highly efficient heating installation.
