Buildings are using the highest amount of energy - assumed as 40% of the whole energy used in EU. Heating and cooling systems are the most ineffective energy users. And have the biggest potential for savings.Buildings are using more energy than transportation or industry. Energy is usually consider as electric power, and we save it by switching off the lights, using energy efficient bulbs. While the highest energy amount is used for heating.
We all want to live and work in a comfortable warm buildings. Do we really need to use so much energy? We can use less when we insulate the buildings to make them more erergy efficient. New technologies make it possible to build for example passive houses, which have the energy demand lower for around 90% compare to average building and fro around 80% comparing to rigorous regulations valid in Europe.
Old buildings are responsible for the bigger energy losts. According to energy audits carried out in Denmark three in four building owners can find the financial savings by insulating the houses.
